On 12th December 2018, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta conferred upon four Beacon teachers the much coveted Head of State Commendation (HSC) awards. They were part of other 300 Kenyans who were decorated by the head of state during the national Jamhuri Day Celebration.

Thuku Njuguna,Tony Abele, Ezekiel Kitulu and Robert Omwa were fated as part of the wider and bigger and higher calling the group has to protect the Kenyan Child.

The state commendations are usually awarded by the president upon recommendation by the National Honours and Awards Committee.

“We would like to send our gratitude to the President ,His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta for recognising the work that Beacon teachers have done,” said Dr Joan Mwende, the founder of the Movement.

This award came at a time when the Beacons were strategising on new ways to execute their mandate, and also reposition themselves for better outreach.

The chairman of the movement ,Mwalimu Thuku Njuguna said that getting the award was not enough but what the awardees will do with the award is what matters.

“This is not the end in itself but the beginning,” he said.

These commendations are given to recipients on the advice of the National Honours and Awards Committee in the Office of the President.
